The Chambers Hotel Unveils Blue Plaque

The Chambers Hotel is excited to announce that it will become the home to a prestigious Blue Plaque.

Founded in 1987 by Leeds Civic Trust, the Blue Plaque scheme was created to celebrate important people, events and buildings in Leeds.*

The plaque was unveiled outside the Henry Moore Institute on Thursday 11th July, 2019 in recognition of talented sculptress Catherine Mawer.

“We are delighted to have been contacted by the Leeds Civic Trust to honour the building with the famous blue plaque,” says Christine Boothroyd, owner of The Chambers. “The craftsmanship of the building is beautiful, and The Chambers was chosen to house the plaque as the stonework is clearly visible.”

Situated at 30 Park Place, Leeds, the iconic building was erected in 1865 by architect Thomas Ambler, and showcases some of the intricate stonework by Victorian stonemasons and architectural sculptors, Mawer and Ingle.

Mawer’s works can be seen on the detailed stonework of the pillars and the arched doorway of this beautifully restored turn-of-the-century building.

“We hope that the blue plaque will give The Chambers more recognition,” continues Catherine. “I am looking forward to having the plaque mounted and being apart of the Leeds Blue Plaque history.”

The Chambers opened its doors in 2008, and offers luxury contemporary apartments for both short and long term stays.

The boutique hotel has won numerous awards, and has once again been named No.1 Hotel in Leeds by TripAdvisor.
